Why HEIC needs a converter like this at all
HEIC's compression comes from the HEVC video codec, and HEVC is patent-encumbered. Safari can decode HEIC because it reuses the operating system's own licensed decoder — Chrome, Firefox, and Edge have never shipped that license, so an <img> tag pointing at a .heic file simply fails to render in those browsers.

Good to know before you convert
Every one of these seven output formats is 8-bit. If the source HEIC held HDR or wide-gamut color, that extra tonal range is flattened during conversion.
A Live Photo is a separate .mov file linked to the .heic still by a shared ID. Converting the still doesn't touch the video, but it also doesn't bring the motion along.
A small number of HEIC files contain multiple images (e.g. bursts). This tool converts the first/primary image in the container.
That's a real limitation of the browser-side TIFF encoder we use, not a hidden setting — expect a notably larger file than the source.
